Faith Formation
Role of Parents in witnessing the faith to their children
"Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child's earliest years. This already happens when the family help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching eheir children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents" (p.595 Catechism of the Catholic Church)
Therefore, it is expected that parents:
-
Attend Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation Masses with their children
-
Pray daily with their children
-
Arrive on time for Family Formation Evenings (once per month) and Junior High/High School Discipleship Groups
-
Work with children on Family Formation Packets
-
Talk with Junior High/High School teens about Discipleship Small Groups
-
Go to Reconciliation regularly
-
Strive to be formed in the Catholic Faith by participating in Small Group Bible Studies, Catechism Classes, Catholic Retreats, etc.
